Taking ocean and coastal conservation at scale. This pillar focuses on supporting the establishment and increasing the effectiveness of area-based conservation measures.

Areas of work include:
- Area Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ)
- Marine Protected Areas (MPA)
- Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs)

Building on our current portfolio and capitalizing on our unique expertise and network of members and partners, some strategic initiatives currently under early-stage development to support the WIO region to move Towards a Blue Future include:

- From LMMAs to an IPLCs managed ocean: enhancing coastal and marine socio-ecological resilience and biodiversity.
- 30x30: a roadmap to ambitious ocean conservation in the WIO (including ABNJs).
- WIO Blue: Enhancing MPA management effectiveness through delegated management (a multi-partner initiative).
