Plastics and Coastal Communities - PlastiCoCo

In order to address the challenges associated with plastic pollution in the environment, this project is conceived to support the production of knowledge on plastic pollution (source, distribution, accumulation points and impacts) and identification of context specific mitigation measures in Tanzania. IUCN is currently implementing a regional analysis on plastic pollution within its MARPLASTICCs initiative—a project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) that undertakes activities in Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa, of which this activity will contribute to filling the regional picture.

Overall, the project is designed to deliver the following outcomes:

  • National analysis of the plastic pollution problem in Tanzania, identifying the main hotspots of plastic pollution
  • Intervention guide on preventing structured hotspots around the plastic value Chain
  • Three (3No) case studies detailing local existing and performing solutions to potentially duplicate along the plastic value chain
